Sunroom Design

(This project is currently in progress and scheduled for completion in June 2026. Check back soon for more photos!)

The client's goal for this new addition was to create a dedicated space where the family could gather and relax during the temperate summer months. As a four-season sunroom, it can function like a screened-in porch when the windows are opened, though it also remains climate-controlled and useable in the colder winter months. After the plans were drafted by a local architect, the client and I began working together to create floor plans and select all of the finishes, materials, lighting fixtures, furniture and other decorative accents.

An important factor to the interior design process was creating cohesion between the sunroom and the rest of the 1920's Tudor home. A hand-made star and cross floor tile features beautiful color variation and a perfectly-imperfect feel, similar to original brick tile found elsewhere in the house, and the fireplace Lannon stone recalls the webwall pattern of the exterior chimney. A custom stained glass piece, created by a local artisan and inspired by the shield motif on the front door, separates the new sunroom and the laundry room.

The custom dining table and chairs, all hand-crafted by a local Milwaukee woodworker, are finished in a natural oil and meant to be passed on for generations to come. Custom cushions and plenty of pillows, expertly sewn by the team at Home Again Fabric & Furnishings, provide ample comfort and coziness on the new banquette and lounging furniture.

The space, while still in progress, has become a comfortable, casual and downright sunny place that the family (and the family dog!) has already started to enjoy.

Furniture Plan and Early Rendering

Two points of entry made easy movement within the space a priority. Early renderings allowed us to test options and determine the best layout before creating the final plan, shown above.

Material Palette and Furniture Collage

Viewing samples of chosen materials together ensures the selections are cohesive in real life. The furniture collage provided the client with a visual understanding of how the pieces would feel together in the space.
